How to Deal With Cystitis, Simona’s Advice
The following 16 points are the principles that Simona has applied on herself, enjoy reading!
Before you leave
- Prevention is Better Than Cure. If our bodies are healthy, our natural defenses will give cystitis a run for its money. Make sure your immune system, gut, urinary tract, and vagina are in good shape.
- You Know the Causes Cystitis is a multifactorial disease and not all women get it for the same reasons. Knowing the causes of cystitis (and ourselves) allows us to set up a strategy tailored to us.
- Recognize the Symptoms. The symptoms of cystitis, if you know them, are easy to recognize and allow you to take timely action. The most common of cystitis are the constant urge to empty the bladder, the difficulty in peeing – often it is emitted drop by drop – and its typical burning.
- A precise diagnosis is essential to intervene with a tailor-made treatment. A urine test with urine culture is important to accurately identify the bacteria responsible for the infection.
Start With Nutrition
- Drink plenty of water, about 2 liters a day. Drinking often allows us to clear the bladder frequently, preventing bacteria from proliferating inside.
- Drink emollient and anti-inflammatory herbal teas such as mallow, calendula, and echinacea.
- Avoid irritating foods such as sugary sweets, cheese, sausages, alcohol, coffee, and spicy food. These foods contribute to inflammation of the urinary tract.
- Favor anti-inflammatory foods such as whole grains and seasonal fruits, and vegetables. These foods have beneficial properties for our body.

Take Care of Your Body
- Take care of your intimate hygiene by avoiding harsh cleansers or vaginal douches. These can break the vaginal pH balance, weakening our natural defenses. For the same reason, washing too often can also be counterproductive.
- Strengthen your immune system with a healthy diet and regular exercise. For additional help, you can take specific dietary supplements to boost your natural defenses.
- Rebalance your intestinal and vaginal flora with lactic acid bacteria and probiotic foods like yogurt.
Health Also Depends on Clothing
- Use cotton underwear , which provides greater breathability than synthetic materials, preventing the proliferation of bacteria.
- Avoid tight-fitting trousers as they create an environment conducive to the growth of bacteria.
- Don’t keep your wet suit on because the bacteria responsible for cystitis reproduce better in wet environments. Replace it with a dry one after taking a bath!
Other Small Gestures that Change Everything
- Don’t hold your pee for long, it may promote the growth of bacteria inside your bladder.
- Do not share towels with anyone!

Even more important for me would be to receive your advice, the result of your personal experience. That’s why I’m inviting you to leave me the 17th tip!
I leave the 18th tip to you:
